Panasonic KX-P7100 Duplex Laser Printer Reviews
Jams, Driver Issues, Expensive Toner
I bought a second one of these printers after the first one worked like a charm (and I got a deal on a new printer for less than the cost of a toner cartridge — little did I realize…) The second one jammed constantly, one out of two pages. I swapped cartridges between printers and the jam followed the cartridge. Maybe a clue for those of you with jamming problems.
I’ve had endless problems with drivers. Printer was down for six months because I gave up after spending two days trying to reinstall. Why it stopped working I never figured out. I tried maybe 6-7 times to reinstall with XP, never worked. Finally went to parallel drivers and got those to work after a few months (no exaggeration — maybe a dozen failed attempts. No error messages, the thing would just enver print).
One of my big complaints with this printer is the expense of the toner. I’m facile enough with hardware to reload my own toner from kits — brings the cost per page down below the extortion level — but as far as I can tell, bulk toner is not available for this machine. Beware if that’s what you’re thinking.
Print quality is good when you can get paper to go all the way through it, but overall, a piece of junk. Don’t waste your money.
One Jamming Printer!
I am currently printing a job for my home business. It’s only 355 documents but I’m now on my third day of trying to print the job. So far I’ve been able to print 123 pages.
Why is it taking so long? The printer constantly jams, and I mean CONSTANTLY!
When you load the media tray full-the specs say it’ll hold 250 sheets, it jams every single time it grabs a sheet of paper. I’ve tried fanning the paper, I’ve tried loosening the paper guides, tightening the paper guides, and setting the guides to the letter setting. Whenever it’s full-it WILL jam. I started and restarted 6 times and I not one single page printed. Finally, I worked my way down to only 25 or so sheets and got one page to print, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th jammed. “Jam at ‘A’” is the only message I get. Over and over and over again.
I’ve had great luck with Panasonic in the past, but this has driven me over the edge. This lengthy delay is costing me money and I still have a long way to go. I will probably never buy another Panasonic appliance again.
I emailed Panasonic and their reply was pretty much “Aww, that’s too bad!”
This printer is so bad, I’ve resorted to buying a new printer under a different manufacturer. I’m waiting for it to arrive. I hate this printer so much, I’m not even going to try to sell it. I can’t do that to someone else. Once my new printer arrives-this one is going straight to the dumpster.
Honestly, if I thought they would pay me, I would send a BILL to Panasonic and charge them for the lost man hours, the cost of paper (it ruins the paper when it jams), and the cost of losing business because of their shoddy product.
Mine works pretty well
I have read all the reviews and I guess I’m lucky because mine doesn’t jam very often. It does jam once in a while, not enough to be annoying, but more than a laser printer really should. I use the manual feed alot for labels, works good, occasionaly it own’t grab the sheet, then you have to start over. I do share the printer with my wife’s computer, NOT on a network, but by using one USB cable and one parallel cable. Normally you can not use a parallel cable longer than 6 feet, & we needed a special parallel signal booster to go the 20 foot distance, but it works! The duplexing feature is great, again a large job may jam occasionally, not a big deal. To all the complainers out there, I don’t think this printer was meant to be shared over a network, and duplexing has absolutely nothing to do with sharing! Definately worth the ultra low price.
Continually jams
It seems to make no difference what quality paper I buy for this printer, it just seems to misfeed or jam all the time.
Stay well clear. It has to be the most disappointing Panasonic product I have ever bought, not to mention the most frustrating.
Never Jam on Me
Great Printer. Very convenient and save paper coz it’s duplex. I was wondering why others said the paper keeps jam. It never happen to me. -_-?
