Canon PIXMA iP4200 Photo Printer
Why bother waiting for the photo lab when you can print images that are just as good–or maybe better–at home? The Canon PIXMA iP4200 combines five-color printing with a 1,856-nozzle print head capable of delivering superfine 1-picoliter ink droplets. The result is gorgeously clean, sharp prints delivered into your hands just minutes after you snapped the shot.
Color resolution is as high as 9,600 x 2,400 dpi, with black resolution up to 600 x 600 dpi. Print speeds range up to 29 ppm for monochrome and 19 ppm in color; a borderless 4-by-6-inch photo takes as little as 51 seconds. With the iP4200’s automatic two-sided printing, you can easily produce glossy brochures and invitations right from your desktop. Improved ink technology supplies rich black text that offers exceptional resistance to smudges–it even holds up to highlighter pens. (All reported speeds are maximums. Actual speeds will vary.)
With its straightforward USB port, connecting the printer with your computer is a snap; the iP4200 is compatible with both Windows and Macintosh operating systems and includes software tools like Easy-PhotoPrint (Windows/Mac), Easy WebPrint (Windows), and PhotoRecord (Windows). A direct print port allows you to print directly from a PictBridge-compatible digital camera or DV camcorder, with or without your computer. The printer is backed with a one-year limited warranty covering parts and labor.

The PIXMA iP4200 Photo Printer is a high-performance machine, combining exceptional print quality with advanced convenience features. It delivers a resolution of up to 9600 x 2400 color dpi, for amazing detail and clarity. To achieve this, Canon Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) uses a high-performance 1,856-nozzle print head that ejects precise, consistent droplets as small as 1 picoliter, resulting in beautiful photos with virtually no detectable grain. Also, the ContrastPLUS 5-color ink system - four dye-based inks and a pigment-based black ink - produces true-life photos with a wide color palette, along with laser-quality text. With a dual paper path, you can keep photo paper stored in one tray and plain paper in another. You’re always ready to print - no paper switching required. Plus, you can print 2 sided to help save on paper costs. And with direct photo printing, you simply connect any PictBridge compatible digital camera or DV camcorder, and print! This PC-free process saves you time and eliminates the need to be tied to your computer.

Canon PIXMA iP4200 Photo Printer Reviews
Excellent Printer
Great quality photos and text. Fast printing speed in Draft Modes. Excellent bargain. No complaints.
Great quality and features, still wasting money on ink
I have a loyalty to Canon and believe that their printers produce quality prints. This printer does just that, and has a lot of great features, like automatic double-sided printing.
Unfortunately, it eats through ink just as fast as any other inkjet. I’m buying new cartridges left and right, and while I may print more than some who use this in their home, I’m certainly not using this at the level of a small home business user.
I print about as much as any student would. So maybe for students having to print articles, papers, handouts, etc., this isn’t the best option. In a few months I already have spent about as much for cartridges as I paid for this (at the time it was on sale for $75).
Also, it’s interesting (read: annoying) how the colored ink tanks run out at a pace comparable to the black ink tank even while I’m printing in ONLY BLACK. And even when just the yellow or cyan tank is empty and the black is full, even grayscale printing will not continue.
Quality and speed
Excellent quality on plain paper and photo paper. Surprisingly fast. Bought a second one for college bound daughter.
PROXIMA Printer
Outstatnding dendability. Printer cartridges are pricy and one must change all of them at once rather than changing just a single one that is low on ink,
Poor photo printing
I have owned Canon products for years. I have bought 5 DSLR cameras (sold 2 after about a year) and found them to be excellent. Now I know that this is an inexpensive consumer color printer but the photo quality is just poor. There is no nice way to put it. The skin tones appear washed out, in fact, all colors appear to be washed out. I’m using Canon paper and I’ve calibrated my monitor. I guess you get what you pay for but I really expected higher quality from Canon. Color documents are fine.
